A Green Bean - Is it alive? Answered.

Following the previous post, I have requested that you write to me and tell me how I can prove that the green bean is alive. I did not get immediate response.

After the CNY break, these were what I observed on 2 of the green beans.

The shoot starts to grow on
 one of the green beans.
Another green bean
soaring upwards!

Now I am convinced that the green bean is alive! It grew and responded well to the water that I fed it with.

However, I am puzzled why the other green beans were not able to germinate like the ones above. In future, I would like to grow more green bean plants.

How can I do that?

These were the conditions that I had while growing the above beans.
  • Water the beans everyday.
  • Put it in my air-conditioned staff room on my working table.
Can you tell me where I went wrong? What should I do in future so that all the green beans will grow?

Do type out your response by clicking on the "comment" link below. Remember to leave your name so that I know who the writer is.

A Green Bean - Is it alive?

Remember the other day I brought a red bean to class? I asked whether it is a living thing. Many of you agreed that it is a living thing.

However, I am not convinced.

A living thing is supposed to move on its own and respond to the surroundings. The red bean:
  1. Did not move
  2. Did not respond even when I clapped my hands
This makes me conclude that the red bean is not alive. Many of you disagreed. You told me to "put the seed beneath some soil and water it". I did what you told me. I placed several green beans and a few red beans on a wet cotton wool.
Green beans and red beans on a wet cotton wool.
  • What should I be able to see in order to know that the beans are alive?
  • What else do I need to do with them? Should I just put it on my table in my staff room?
Help me understand this better. Write a note to me and put it in our Mailbox.
Remember to visit this site again for updates on the beans.

Swimming Lesson 1 on Friday, 20 Jan.

This Friday will be our first swimming lesson. Are you excited? I'm glad that almost everyone in the class decided to sign up for this Mass CCA regardless having to take personal swimming lessons outside the school curriculum. Yes, even if you already know how to swim, it will still be meaningful as the instructors will teach you some advance skills that you have yet to learn. Furthermore, you can take the opportunity to interact with your friends and have fun.

Below are some pointers that Mr Kwek covered during the briefing session just now.
PROCEDURE:

  1. Come to school wearing your PE shirt and shorts over your swimming trunk/ swimsuit. You need not change to your school uniform after recess.
  2. Put your bag in class. Change into your sandals. You will need to change back to your school shoes when we return to school. Bring your carrier bag, water bottle, plastic bag, goggle and storybook to the hall for morning assembly. We will set off to the pool at 7.30am.

Things To Bring For Swimming EVERY Friday: carrier bag, water bottle, plastic bag, goggle, sandals

Things to Bring THIS Friday only: MT books and stationeriesYour recess has been pushed to 9.30 - 10:00am.

Last but not least, though we will be having fun, safety must not be neglected. Remember, SAFETY IS EVERYBODY'S BUSINESS.

Those who are not joining us for the swimming lesson, please wear your PE attire as you will be joining the rest of the P3s for Taekwondo.
