A Green Bean - Is it alive?

Remember the other day I brought a red bean to class? I asked whether it is a living thing. Many of you agreed that it is a living thing.

However, I am not convinced.

A living thing is supposed to move on its own and respond to the surroundings. The red bean:
  1. Did not move
  2. Did not respond even when I clapped my hands
This makes me conclude that the red bean is not alive. Many of you disagreed. You told me to "put the seed beneath some soil and water it". I did what you told me. I placed several green beans and a few red beans on a wet cotton wool.

  • What should I be able to see in order to know that the beans are alive?
  • What else do I need to do with them? Should I just put it on my table in my staff room?
Help me understand this better. Write a note to me and put it in our Mailbox.
Remember to visit this site again for updates on the beans.
